Rain, Rain, Go Away… 10 Tips for Managing Excessive Rain

This summer in Louisiana, it seems every other day is met with dark, looming skies and spotty showers. As much as we love our swamp, this trend in the weather has put a significant damper on typical summer activities. Though the magnitude and intensity of these rainstorms vary, excessive stormwater puts a strain on drainage and flood infrastructure tends to be the result of storms that dump several inches of water in a few short hours and at times with little warning. It does not hurt to be ahead of the game and place safeguards on your business that help deal with the rain.

Ways to protect your business from stormwater include:

  • Inspect and clean the roof drainage system

  • Trim trees

  • Remove debris

  • Check gutters for granules

  • Inspect roof drains

  • Double check drainage systems and downspouts

  • Look for long-term standing water

  • Inspect slope of roof-cover system

  • Check AC drains and wall air conditioners

  • Up-size gutters
