Sustainability does’t come without costs. It’s a privilege to be able to focus on sustainability instead of survival. But in this era, sustainability is survival. That is why Love Your City is extending its sustainable services to those who can’t support the costs.
Economic and environmental issues always hit New Orleans East the hardest. A sustainable economy is the solution to the persistent plagues on New Orleans East. The Veggi Co-op in Village de l’Est will be supported by Sprout and Batture. These local businesses will work to create green infrastructure on the farm co-op to allow the community to grow produce and livestock sustainably, while protecting the area from flooding and pollution.
The co-op will support Village de l’Est’s entire community, including its large population of immigrants and the local youth who will benefit from the educational aspect of the farm. This project is supported by financing from the 2022 Love Your City Awards Gala.
The LYC Awards are intended to celebrate the LYC community — all the businesses that have put their community first by working towards a sustainable economy. By being a part of the gala, you can pay it forward by supporting the Veggi Co-op.
New Orleans East has come back strong disaster after disaster, but our city needs to do the work to prevent these disasters and become resilient to them. By creating sustainable ways to prevent pollution and flooding, increase food security, and strengthen the economy, New Orleans East can become less vulnerable to future tragedies that could overwhelm the city.
The Love Your City Awards Gala embodies the vision of a sustainable economy. When the next hurricane hits, when the next oil spill floods our coast, when the next pandemic tears through our city, we can fight back. Turn your passion into action by supporting the 2022 Love Your City Awards.
This blogpost is part of a series leading up to the 2022 Love Your City Awards. Every ticket sold for this edition will support a green infrastructure project in New Orleans East. To learn more about this project and purchase tickets please visit www.loveyourcityawards.com.
